In recent years, homeschooling has become increasingly common in society. Although it has several benefits, I believe that the disadvantages are more significant.
One major disadvantage is that children may lack social skills and have limited learning resources. For example, pupils who study at home may have fewer opportunities to interact with their peers, making it difficult for them to develop communication skills. In addition, they may have limited access to facilities such as libraries, science laboratories, and sports facilities. On the other hand, homeschooling can be more expensive for parents which leads to financial burden. For instance, they need to hire a qualified teacher and pay for learning materials. Although they can choose a suitable teacher and need to prepare a sum of money to pay for tutoring, not to mention the cost of materials, and how many hours they should be paid. As a result, they may have less money to spend on other household needs.
Despite the drawbacks, there are two significant advantages: a safe environment and flexible schedules. Many young people nowadays become targets of bullying. Since bullying can be a source of concern for parents, some choose homeschooling to monitor their children’s progress and provide a safe learning environment. Admittedly, homeschooling offers greater flexibility. This is because parents can arrange regular days off and break times. Therefore, children have more time to study and develop other skills through activities such as swimming and music lessons. As a result, they may become happier and more energetic.
To summarize, although there are two significant advantages of providing homeschooling to create a safe atmosphere and flexible schedule, I believe that the drawbacks are greater. Therefore, it can help children to improve their well-being
