In this day and age, there has been a growing trend in people moving to urban areas for better economic opportunities. They, however, get confronted with various adversities such as overcrowding, pollution, and many more to mention.
As more and more people migrate to metropolitan areas, the population drastically increases, engendering other issues. With a dense population, the cost of living increases due to the high demand in food, housing and other living requirements. A study substantiates this point by presenting the gap in market prices in the urban areas, showing a higher price by 16% than that of others. Beyond groceries, housing costs marked 50% higher than other rural areas, ultimately showing that the cost of living in urban areas is very costly. On top of that, pollution is another problem spawned by overpopulation in the cities. With this frenetic lifestyle, a majority of urban dwellers transport by car, causing more carbon emission. Under such conditions, urban places are considered to be more polluted.
I strongly believe that the government should encourage people to move to the suburbs in order to alleviate the problems caused by overpopulation in cities. One effective way to achieve this is by providing suburban areas with facilities and utilities with the same quality as in urban centers, such as reliable transportation, healthcare, schools, and internet access. If people are assured that they can still enjoy a convenient and comfortable lifestyle outside the city, they will be more willing to relocate. Along with that, the government should enhance job opportunities in suburban areas by investing in local industries and attracting businesses. This would reduce the need for people to migrate to cities solely for employment. Another way is by offering housing incentives, such as lower property prices or financial assistance, could make suburban living more appealing and affordable. By implementing these measures, the government can help ease the burden on major cities while also promoting a more balanced distribution of population.
In conclusion, citizens in urban areas face different challenges, which are inflation, high cost of living, and pollution, spawned from overpopulation. The government can mitigate these problems by investing in suburban areas to attract more people as well as reduce the overcrowding issues in the city. With high quality facilities, enhanced employment opportunities and affordable housing, the suburbs would be more appealing to others, ultimately leading to a balanced distribution of population.
