WRITING TASK 2 ( PAGE 116)
Nowadays, a number of individuals tend to place greater importance on their physical appearance rather than their intellectual abilities. I disagree with this view because being intelligent is useful for success in both work and life.
First of all, intellectual ability plays a more vital role in long-term personal and professional success than physical appearance. In today’s competitive job market, strong intellectual abilities are essential. The rise of Industry 4.0 demands employees possess advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to adapt to new technologies. This is because people with strong mental skills are better at maintaining their position or performing effectively in today’s competitive job market. For instance, a doctor’s intellectual ability, particularly their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, directly impacts patient diagnosis and treatment, leading to better health outcomes. This is far more significant than superficial appearances.
Secondly, appearance is temporary and subjective, while intellectual ability tends to develop and deepen over time. Moreover, physical beauty often fades with age, but knowledge and wisdom can continue to grow. The most respected and influential figures in history are usually remembered not for their looks, but for their contribution to the world.
In conslusion, I personally believe that intelligence is more valuable in the long run. It helps people succeed in their jobs and make a real difference in society.
