Band 4+: People spend less time at home than they used to. What are the reasons for this change and what are the effects on society and individuals?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The modern technological era requires individuals to spend the world of work rather than

staying at home. This essay will explore three main causes and three consequential impacts on

both society and individuals.

Several factors lead to the declining time spent at home. The major factor is advancements in

technology especially the proliferation of smart devices such as phones, computers, and play

stations. For example, being constantly online cuts people off their immediate family

surroundings and disrupts face-to-face communication.

The second key cause is the evolving pattern of work means that people, especially staff are

tempted to work productivity for higher wages, and they might desire to be paid pay increments,

perks, or financial rewards such as not only incentives but also bonuses so that this is the only

livelihood they can find.

Lastly, the interest in external recreational hobbies takes much time such as playing games, club

meetings, and pursuing activities that they want to do.

Above all, the decline in home time has led to adverse effects in immune system such as

workaholic and sedentary lifestyle resulted in damage to their well-being.

Moreover, as a consequence of spending less time in home, family relationship may be led to

divorce in course of hindering the development of strong emotional connections.

To sum up, the decrease in spending time at home can be attributed to the influence of

technology, enhancing work culture, and leisure time, whilst in modern times witnesses a

transformation in its pattern, people’s health warnings and interpersonal relationship may

deteriorate.
