In this day and age, allocating time for indoor activities and interactions has been reduced in today’s individuals. In this essay, I will explore the agents of this phenomenon before evaluating its overall impacts on each person and society as a whole.
There are some main reasons that explain why people are spending less time at home these days. First, with the development of the economy, the job market is more competitive and requires increasing labor’s effort for work. Partly because they find that only by prioritizing working, could they have an openness and promotion in their career. Hence, there is a tendency for people to take on additional responsibility, or even travel frequently for business, which diminishes their available period of time staying at home. Beyond that, the appearance of recreational activities and entertainment options, such as gyms, shopping centers, and cinemas, encouraged everyone to spend their time outside at the expense of time at home.
The impacts of this trend can be observed in society in general as well as individuals in particular. On a personal aspect, a prolonged absence from home can weaken familial bonds. Especially for elders in the family, who require attention from the younger members to not feel lonely and pressured. Additionally, if the children don’t attain adequate attention and supervision from their parents, they can be affected negatively in the optimal mental and personality growth of their lives. On a societal aspect, as they are rarely at home, it may lead to a lack of interaction with their neighbors or participation in local events. This may reduce neighborship and gradually contribute to social isolation and a decline in mutual support among residents.
In conclusion, the rising workload and outside activities are the key to stimulating people’s absence from home. This development is negative because it directly affects in familial bonds and the neighborship in where people live.
