A home is where one feels safe and relaxed from the hustle and bustles of life. It enables most people and families to unite and discuss their various events of life. People spend little periods at their homestead , compared to how they did before. This essay will discuss some of the reasons to not spending much time at home such as being employed and the possible impacts to the society which include erosion of cultural practices, and also the effects to the individual which includes but not limited to , exhaustion from life hustles.
To begin with, most people try to evade crises arising in the family by spending few hours at home. Some parents avoid coming home early when a certain item is on demand from the children or the other couple, to avoid lots of questions if it cannot be fulfilled. Hence, he or she may leave very early in the morning and come back late when everyone is deeply asleep. Secondly, being employed in various sectors in the country has disabled people from spending more time at home. Some jobs create more demand on time to their employees, thus most of the time is spent being at work. Some have to arise in the early hours due to the long distances to be covered to work. Hence, having limited moments to stay at home. A study done among employed staffs in Kenya showed that most of them tend to have limited time with their families during the year, and this was attributed to their busy work schedules.
People not having enough time to spend at home has had various impacts. In the society, most of the traditional norms have been eroded. In the African culture, a woman is expected to cook for the family and even educate the daughters of what is expected of them. Due to some mothers not being able to be at home, some have delegated the responsibilities to the house assistants. Hence, some children are raised without being able to engage in basic activities when they are at age like cooking, washing clothes. This has led to raising of “lazy” children for the society. In addition, most individuals get exhaustion from having inadequate time to rest. Urbanization has created increased demand for employment. Most people strive to make ends meet in towns due to high wages , thus unable to spend time at home with their families. With prolonged straining, one is predisposed to mental conditions which are expensive to manage. A study done by the ministry of housing in Kenya showed that most people are paying rents for houses they don’t spend most of the time in as they are occupied with various issues like work, businesses.
In conclusion, various people are having limited moments at their homes due to possibly evading family crises that one finds it challenging to handle such as financial demands. This has created issues like the degrading of our traditional norms and culture in the society as some of the tasks that were to be performed by parents have been delegated to house managers. Furthermore, most individuals have become overwhelmed with the increasing demands of life, leading to development of mental conditions that create a financial burden to them.
