Nowadays, there is a trend of people moving to foreign countries either in search of better job opportunities or for pursuing higher studies. It is always a topic of discussion that whether they should adopt foreign custom and tradition or not. In my opinion, it would be a great idea to learn new rituals and history as far as it is not contrasting individual’s own belief.
To begin with, learning new custom is an essential thing while living abroad as it helps to make relations with native people there. Other than that, it also increases the knowledge about the history of that specific nations. Moreover, in order to get familiar with everyone around, it would be necessary to follow their belief. Similarly, all nations have their unique culture. Although they have different way of celebrations, their roots come from the same place. For instance, Canada has a tradition of celebrating Halloween night whereas, Indian people believe in “shraddha”. Interestingly, both of them are originated with similar idea about ghosts.
On the other hand, it is our responsibility that we preserve our culture and tradition safely. However, there are some beliefs which are opposed by different culture. As example, eating non vegetarian food which is unethical according to Hinduism, whereas, western countries consider it normal. Moreover, some immigrants are attached to their tradition so deeply, that they will not adopt foreign culture easily. Apart from that, one more reason for people not following customs of foreign countries is their lack of knowledge. To be precise, nowadays youngsters keep faith only on those things which can be explained or proved. So that it is also recommended to explain the reasons behind doing some particular tradition.
To conclude, it is undeniable that immigrants should adopt oversees culture as much as possible in order to mix up with the people living around. However, it should also be taken into consideration that being flexible is not harmful for your own culture. Additionally, youth can be encouraged to follow culture by providing them logical explanations.
