Nowadays, reading and watching TV are two of the most important one’s leisure activities. Some people believe that reading improves imagination power and command of language, while others believe that watching television is a better way than reading. In this essay, my viewpoint on this topic will be described.
On the one hand, some people argue that those who read in their leisure time have better thinking power and language skills. Firstly, people can learn various grammar rules and improve their vocabulary through reading. Furthermore, while reading they fully focus on reading, so they create visual form in their subconscious mind. Hence, they can develop their imagination power. For instance, Harry Potter is the best book for readers who want to improve their language skills with entertainment and learn varied vocabulary. When I was reading that book, I created a virtual picture format in my mind and that really helps in developing creativity without any disruption, because while watching TV a lot of advertisements come it distract viewers.
On the other hand, some people argue that those who prefer watching television can easily develop imagination and communication skills. To begin, TV is the best platform to improve language skills like native speakers and people can improve their pronunciation by watching English movies and news. For instance, my friend John had many problems with English communication but he started to watch English movies and BBC news after that he improved their vocabulary and style of speaking. Secondly, TV offers a colourful and live image to the viewer that get interested in watching and it boost our thinking. Means we think about what will be their next reaction and all that.
To conclude, I partly agree with the above statement. Both have benefits and drawbacks, so it depends on the person.
