Band 5+: Plastic Free Future! Big part of plastic produced globally is for packaging. A very small part of plastic is recycled. By 2050, according to 5 Gyres Organisation, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea if figures continue to rise. In 2014, we were consuming 311 million tonnes of plastic – a number which is set to double in the next 20 years. The 2017 United Nations Clean Seas Campaign estimates that there were 51 trillion tiny pieces of microplastic in the ocean today – 500 times more than the number of stars in our galaxy!

Plastic Free Future!

Dear students and colleagues, today we are going to talk about the problem of plastic consuming around our country and define the steps to cut down consumption of plastic.

In our modern world, big part of plastic produced for packaging. Meanwhile, a tiny part of plastic is recycled. Therefore, let’s take a look at statistics. For instance, in 2014, people arounf the world were consuming 311 million tonnes of plastic. In according to some predictions, this number might be doubled in the next 20 years. Also, the 2017 United Nations Clean Seas Campaign reported that there were 51 trillion tiny pieces of microplastic in the ocean. It can surprise you if you are aware about comparison between that number and a number of stars in our galaxy – the amount of microplastic’s pieces is in 500 times more. Additionally, 5 Gyres Organisation has claimed that by 2050, there will be more plastic than all fish in the sea if values of pollution continue to rise.

In our country the situation with high level of plastic consuming is the same as in the rest parts of the world. There are a few potential initiatives which have been proposed by our School Ecologic Society. Presumably, those initiatives will allow to cut down using plastic products. One of them is a gradual decline of plastic consuming in the different fields. Potentially, it might give a positive result in the long term. The second proposal is decline the manufacture’s power of producing new plastic.

To conclude, there is a serious problem of plastic pollution, not only in our country. Overthise, it occures around the globe and we all have to completelly understand that our safe future and future of our children depend on ourself and our responsible approaches to solve this acute question.
