Although public libraries have expanded their resources through various types of materials, some people are of the opinion that it is more likely beneficial for them to use these advanced technologies in different ways. However, I do not hold the same view.
Contrary to the belief of many, libraries have been creating different types of reading materials to attract each individual and visit the facility itself, but there are certain people who cannot use them. For instance, elderly people mostly prefer to read books in the library, yet they cannot cope with the new technological advancement. As a matter of fact, even though new technology has its advantages, drawbacks still arise because of its complicated instructions. In effect, only young individuals were able to use various types of reading materials.
Another factor to consider is that the use of software, videos, or DVDs was more expensive for the government to invest in. Moreover, the ambiance of the library would not be for reading if they would support the utilization of software, videos, or DVDs. As a matter of fact, funding of the technological devices in the library could be used in investing in additional furniture and expansion of the public library. Thereby, most young individuals and elderly people could have ample seats to use while reading their chosen book.
In a nutshell, some citizens prefer installing new advanced technology in public libraries because of its convenience in this technological age; I do not support this view. In my perspective, books were still useful and would not have negative effects on individuals’ health, including poor eyesight.
