The competition between students for getting good marks or winning any sport in school has increased significantly over the last few years. Some people opine that children should be more competitive in school, whereas others believe that teamwork and cooperation are more crucial. Although I side with the second perspective, in this essay I will endeavour to discuss both viewpoints.
Firstly, I personally think being cooperative in the classroom is more important than being competitive. Because when a child learns to cooperate with others, he or she gains more experience than those who are competitive, and he or she can use this experience in their upcoming days in order to achieve his or her goals. For instance, when children learn to work with or help others, they learn the lesson of working in a group setting, which can enhance their presentation and teamwork skills. Since these days most multinational companies or large, renowned businesses tend to hire those employees who can work better in a team or group, learning to become cooperative will help children get those types of jobs very easily in the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, cooperativeness helps children become good speakers. If children have to work in a group setting in their schools, they would have to communicate with other students on a regular basis, and this will enrich their communication skills in the early stages of their lives. Therefore, in order to become better speakers, children should have to work as a team and help others.
However, many people might argue that children should become competitive. Yes, I admit that they should be competitive in order to excel against their fellow students in their academic results. In this fast-paced world, children have to face an uphill struggle to get good marks in their academics, and if they do not have a competitive nature, then it would be impossible for them to succeed in their lives. For example, if children do not have any intention to do better than their friends, then they will find education mundane, and consequently, they will lose interest, and their academic results will automatically become mediocre.
In a nutshell, I do admit that children should have to be competitive in order to succeed in life. However, I think being cooperative and having experience in teamwork are more important, as most large businesses tend to seek out people who can work better in a team.
