Nowadays, there is a growing debate about introducing compulsory work experience for secondary school students. Personally, I worry that this decision could have negative consequences because it may place an extra burden on students, and there are better ways to improve their skills and education. To explain the reasons for my view, I will examine the issue in terms of academic performance and value of work experience.

When it comes to academic performance, it is undeniable that compulsory work experience would add more stress to students’ lives. Students already have a heavy workload, with numerous subjects to study and exams to prepare for. As a result, introducing mandatory work experience could lead to burnout, making it difficult to focus on their studies and achieve high grades. In the long term, this might limit their chances of entering top universities and pursuing successful careers.

Another crucial aspect of this ussue is whether work experience is truly beneficial for young students. It is often the case that such programs involve simple, low-skilled tasks that do not contribute to future career goals. Instead of gaining useful knowledge, students might feel demotivated and frustrated. That is why I believe schools should focus on more relevant and valuable additions to the curriculum.

It is true that optional courses focus on life skills and career planning. These courses could include time management, financial literacy, and even career workshops where students can meet professionals from different fields. However, I am of the opinion that students should have the chance to prepare for the future without sacrificing their academic performance.

All things considered, I think it is not a good idea to make work experience compulsory for secondary school students. Instead, schools should offer practical courses that help young people develop important skills while still focusing on their studies. Undoubtedly, each of us must prioritize our education and prepare carefully for the future.

In contemporary society, dual-income households become the norm, with both men and women actively participatiing in the full-time workforce.
