Research suggests that the characteristics people are born with have a greater influence on their personality and development than the experiences they encounter throughout the life. Although both factors play a major role, I partly believe that inborn characteristic have a stronger impact because they shape people’s behaviour, intelligence and natural abilities from an early age.
Firstly, genetic characteristic play a significant role in shaping an individual’s personality. People’s inborn traits such as intelligence, confidence and creativity are gained from their parents. These natural qualities often remain stable throughout life and influence the way people think, behave and respond to different situations. For example, a child who is naturally confident may find it easier to make friends and perform well in school, regardless of the environment in which they grow up.
On the other hand, life experience also contribute to personal development by teaching valuable lessons and helping individuals adapt to different situations. Education, family upbringing and social interactions can influence attitudes and behaviour. However, these experience usually modify existing personalities traits rather than completely changing them. For instance, a shy person may become more outgoing through practice and encouragement, but their natural tendency of being introvert may still remain.
In conclusion, although life experiences undoubtedly influence people’s development, I believe that the characteristic individuals are born with have a greater impact on their personality. Natural ability and genetic traits provide the foundation upon which experiences build throughout the life.
