One school of thought holds that there is no point in keeping schools today because of the availability of information on the internet. While acknowledging the reasons for/behind this thinking, I would argue that schools are still indispensable.

On the one hand, it is understandable why some people believe that the internet will replace traditional schools. The key rationale in favor of this belief is that the internet provides children with innumerous resources for learning, which would allow them to self-study at home. For example, simply with a click of a mouse, children can access a plethora of language-learning tutorial videos on YouTube, so it is possible for them to pick up a new language without having to go to school. The same logic can be applied to other subjects like maths or literature. Considering these factors, the belief that schools will be made redundant seems perfectly justifiable.

On the other hand, I am convinced that however advanced and sophisticated the internet can be, schools still have an important role to play. First, it should be noted that children can be so overwhelmed by too much information available online that they might not know where to start and what to do next. That being the case, their learning experience would be extremely frustrating. Therefore, we will still need schools, where a structured learning environment and certified teachers can help students stay on track with their studies and avoid wasting time and effort. In addition to this, schools can also aid children in developing their social skills throughout daily interactions with peers and teachers. This is arguably an area where the internet cannot help children.

In conclusion, while there are justifications that the internet will make schools unnecessary, I would contend that schools are still wholly warranted because of their crucial role in children’s overall/comprehensive/holistic/well-rounded development.
