I completely agree to learning traditional subjects because the new technology job market has high demand of scientist and also if the student has a mentality to continue his learning journay.
Learning traditional subjects will increase science and academic background for students, teaching new skills rather than learn traditional subjects may led to a weak knowledge base and problem solving skills for students. If schools care more about learn traditional subjects like math and physics will be more effective in new science, for example, nowadays computer science has a demand in the labor market, and most big technology companies care about science backgrounds like math. This is good for fresh grad students because companies need scientists and they learn them the required skills.
