Some scientists predict that all human beings will communicate in a single language in the future. While I understand that this could endanger cultural diversity, I partly agree with this phenomenon because of several reasons.
On the one hand,a shared language could be detrimental to cultures and people. Firstly, the disappearance of local languages would be a serious loss. In detail, every language carries unique traditions and values, so if humanity speaks only one tongue, much of this cultural richness would vanish. For example, indigenous languages often contain ecological knowledge that cannot be translated to another language.Secondly, teaching billions of people a new universal language would be detrimental to developed countries.. Implementing a new global language needs to redesign their entire education systems including new curricula, textbooks, and teacher training programs that require huge financial investment. As a result, developed countries will not have enough money to practice speaking in general.
On the other hand, I believe that the advantages of a global language are more substantial. The first reason for this is that a shared language would be the bridge to harmony and understanding between different countries . It goes without saying that international conferences, academic research, and cross-border trade often require translation services that consume both time and money. If people everywhere could communicate directly, collaboration would be smoother and misunderstandings of different aspects would be reduced, leading to the foundation for closer international connections. Another reason for this is that speaking the same language could foster a stronger sense of belonging to a global community. At present, individuals sometimes feel isolated and divided by national or cultural identities, hence, a universal language would make it easier for people to get across and facilitate international communication. For instance, romantic relationships across borders would be easier to form as people would be able to share their feelings and emotions without relying on imperfect translations. Consequently, this could encourage greater empathy, and build solidarity among different areas.
In conclusion, while there are many drawbacks regarding cultural diversity and financial investment, I still believe that it is more beneficial to individuals as global connections expand and barriers are diminished.
