In modern times, social media is a favorable aspect in our society. It exceeded the expectations of the modern society to deliver what they are capable of providing, be it good or bad. While social media provides conveniency to society, some also disagree with that thought. I am inclined to agree more than to disagree with this voew and this essay will discuss both sides of the topic.
Social media became our second hand assistant in our daily life. It is the jack of all trades. For instance, the apps installed, such as Uber provide ease of transportation in booking a taxi. It also relay informations between the passenger and the driver. Another app that the social media provide is the Google mail. We are able to send out mails to the recipient in just a minute to connect with our loved ones. It is fast and convenient like the exact point of the social media.
On the other hand, some disagree that the social media is a good thing to the society. It is a double edged sword that while it gives ease and convenience, there is a bypass of boundaries to the individual as well as it affect the person’s attention span. For example, some apps has a default setting where it can track a person’s whereabouts, making other people know their location once they posted something in their newsfeed. Anothet instance, social media apps appears to have affected a person’s attention span. According to some journal reviews, social apps are linked to shorter attention span due to cognitive overload or overstimulation.
In conclusion, social media contributes significantly to our society, whether it is good or bad. There are advantages and disadvantages however, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and I believe with social media literacy, we can control how much we can share information online without worrying if we are divulging much information than we are aware of. Social media is one of the major development in our modern society.
