Certain individuals suppose that international travel should be limited to avoid the impacts on global warming due to airplanes which will cause harm to future generations. However, many others, including me, believe that there are more benefits to international travels than harm to the environment, including, income generation, tourism and employment, while leading to an economic growth.
The main type of international travel is by airplane. Airplane produces carbon emissions which is trapped in the earth’s atmosphere, these gasses reflect heat radiation back into earth so heat is not lost into space. This increases the temperature of our planet, enhancing the global warming effect and leads to global warming. By limiting the number of air travels, there will be reduction in environmental costs, causing less harm to future generations.
However, limitting international travels will cause many opportunity costs as air travels are the main source of tourism. Tourist spends income on domestic products, bringing income into the country. People pay more tax so the government will have more revenue to invest in public services such as education and healthcare. Consequently, people have more access to education and healthcare, increasing the living standards of residents.
Furthermore, tourism provides job opportunities for local people, such as jobs in the transportation sector and people working in the airport. This reduces unemployment in the economy which leads to an actual economic growth. Economic benefits are more important than environmental cost because it influences people’s living standards and is one of the main source of income of many countries.
In conclusion, the government should not limit international travel because the economic benefits outweighs the negative impacts to the environment. On the other hand, the government should make airplanes more sustainable to reduce the effects on global warming.
