There is a view that some think children should begin studying a foreign language at the beginner level at school instead of starting at the elementary level. I partly agree with this statement, because early language learning is very important for children, but I also believe that language learning in secondary school should not be completely ignored.
One clear reason for this is mental ability. It is well known that when children are younger, they learn new skills or languages quickly. Their brains are like unwritten paper, which is why they acquire unknown knowledge easily. As children become adults, they face some problems, such as decreased ability to learn and need to study additional subjects rather than just English. If they are youth to learn English, they spend more time for additional subjects compare to English. Additional, they are less afraid of making mistakes, which helps them practice more confidently.
However, learning English in second school also has its own benefits. Such as older pupils are more mature and they can understand complex grammar, sentences, and structures better than younger children. Additionally, they are focused on learning English because they have clear goals – such as, preparing for university or going abroad to study or work. That is why secondary school students are better at managing their time and studying independently. Moreover, they can use apps, websites and videos related to learning English. These opportunities help them learn the language more quickly effectively.
In conclusion, although learning a foreign language in secondary school has clear advantages such as maturity and having clear goal learning, I believe that starting at an earlier age can be more effective due to children’s natural ability to acquire languages easily. Therefore, I partly agree with the idea.
