Nowadays healthcare has become worldwide the centre of much debate. We live in a society where everything has increased its cost and healthcare has been affected by this phenomenon as well. There are many concerns about this topic and people have different points of view on it: some of them believe that the issue could be addressed by investing more money in prevention, while others state that the best solution would be funding existing diseases treatments.
One of the main reasons for the increased cost of healthcare is linked to overpopulation. In fact, governments having to provide care to overgrown society leads to massive expenses that cannot be always covered. Moreover, another crucial factor to consider is aging population suffering from metabolic and chronic conditions, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. These illnesses need to be treated with expensive lifelong medicines that may negatively impact governments’ finances.
In order to reduce healthcare expenditures, governments should focus on funding prevention campaigns. Prevention is indeed a powerful weapon that can be used to ease inevitable future costs associated with diseases treatments. In fact, governments should rise awareness about illnesses consequences, especially chronic ones that can affect patients wellbeing and life expectancies. By doing that, the population would tend to have a healthier lifestyle from which them and the society would benefit from. It would reduce governments’ financial burden and the onset of diseases among people.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that even though healthcare has become less and less affordable, it is fundamental that governments actively find solutions to address these expenses while providing individuals with adequate basic care.
