The Olympic Games are recognised and watched by people all over the world. They are known to bring countries together as citizens cheer on for their teams and players. However, there have been differing view points on the advantages and disadvantages these games hold for nations. This essay will be covering both these perspectives, along with several reasons.
On one hand, people argue that the Olympics provide athletes with the opportuinity to represent their nations on a global paltform. The games are also diverse and inclusive in nature, allowing even specially abled persons to participate, for example, the Paralympics. Sportsmen are also aided in improving their performance and game in various countires by learning from other distinguished atheltes. These games also facilitate healthy comptetion among players nationwide.
On the other hand, others beg to differ, persisting that the finances spent on the Games could be put to use in more pressing and delicate matters, such as poverty. The money raised for the organising of the Olympics could instead be used to distribute resources like food, potable water, shelter, etc to the underpriviledged. Another such issue that could be dealt with is the lack of proper healthcare in underdeveloped countries and states, such as, improving sanitary conditions for women, developing sterile childbirth facilities, imroving menstrual hygiene and encouraging menstrual education to young girls.
While there have proven to be numerous cons to hosting and participating in the Olympic games, we must also be mindfuld and dutiful in caring for more sensitive matters across different countries and come together to help alleviate these challenges.
