It is widely believed that bridging the gap among nations is the main purpose of the Olympic games, while others assume that the money spent on holding them should be utilized for other primary problems. From my perspective, this action also has pros and cons which I will present clearly in the essay below.
Firstly, it can not be denied that organizing an international event such as the Olympic games is not a simple thing. In fact, the majority of Olympic host countries do not earn a dramatical profit frequently or even lose due to the huge organization expenses. This amount is utilized for constructing and upgrading infrastructure according to standards , communications, security,human resources and often exceeding the revenue from tickets, advertising and television copyright. For instance, Japan is the organizer of Olympic Tokyo in 2020 , the event occurred when the world was affected by COVID 19 flu leading to Japan not only unprofitable but also losing the majority revenue from ticket sales, cost incurred and causing a 22 billion USD loss to the economy of this country. Furthermore, the government can capitalize on the national budget for more urgent and important things. Indeed, many Olympic host countries are facing numerous social problems that dissolve such as economic degradation, high poverty rate when the tournament is happening and being the organizer can become a burgen.
On the other hand, the Olympics are seen as a way to foster international harmony by uniting nations through a shared love for sports. Especially, athletes from different cultures compete alongside one another, often forming connections that go beyond political or national divides. The Games also create a sense of global togetherness among audiences and help break down cultural differences and boundaries. Furthermore , hosting the Olympics can boost national pride, enhance national image and stimulate economic growth if managed and arranged effectively. To illustrate this , the 1992 Barcelona Olympics revitalized the city, improving infrastructure and turning it into a top tourist destination.
In conclusion, despite it may seem that organizing and hosting the Games can be risky , the Olympics are a mass, cooperative effort that has tremendous value. Therefore, countries should consider hosting the games if they have enough potential while ignoring other issues.
