Band 6+: Some children spend hours every day on their smartphones. Why is this the case? Do you think

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

These days, excessive smartphone usage has gained ground among some children. While spending hours on smartphones offers educational benefits, I still believe that the potential disadvantages of digital addiction are well-justified.

On the one hand, excessive use of smartphones brings about benefits across various fronts. The primary lofty benefit is educational apps.In this teach-savvy generation, some young children are now how to take advantage of technology.Throughout using their smartphones they access various online educational platforms and contents that can allow them to enhance their knowledge in a interactive and quick way. Moreover, as technology is ever-increases capability of using laptops or smartphones is demand at many foreign educational facilities, and every students should know how to use gadgets. Consequently, it is evident that they are forced to spend a huge amount of time on their gadgets to gain knowledge. Another significant advantage has to do with staying connected.Looking back, before the development of technology appear, people are used to commuting long distances even to communicate with their closest. Thus, reliance on technology is the alternative to such purposes, making it easy for everyone to keep in touch with their friends, especially those who live far away.

However, I still believe that excessive smartphone usage may have rather negative consequences. A major concern surrounding this trend is health problems. Many people are prone to checking their phones every minute, even after waking up in the mornings. If children continue to spend more time on their phones, it may foster a feeling of lethargy and stress. As a result, this digital addiction is likely to bring about more health issues, such as eye strain, sleep disturbance and lack of physical activity.

Another disadvantage is perhaps reduced focus on studies.Studying for long hours requires a lot of concentration.Scrolling endlessly through apps is likely to reduce attention spans, making it uneasy for children to pay attention to slower-paced activities like reading. Scrolling on Instagram or YouTube videos helps them to gain dopamine in an entertainment way, but as a result, it exerts a negative impact on their cognitive systems and academic performance.

In conclusion, excessive smartphone usage is a double-edged sword, presenting both positives and negatives. While the potential for gaining knowledge and staying connected is undeniably attractive, we should not underestimate concerns regarding health and academic performance.
