In recent years, increasing number of people have lived longer than ever before in the past. This situation brings undeniable benefits, such as better guidance to society and support to family members, but it also creates serious problems like increasing non working age group and increasing budget in health sectors.
The most compelling advantage is that, elderly people helps to provide guidance to the society. If there is an old age people in society, it is always better to ask for their guidance and support, especially about their working field. For instance, people in my village always come in my home to ask about different herbal plants to my grandfathers, as he had already served as herbal counsellor on his working age. His guidance on medicinal plant used is always found to be more effective to people of my village. Another advantage is , old people provides support to their family. When there was an elderly people in home, there is always easy to take care of child, as they have more experience on this. So the active age people of this house can work effectively and provide support in economic development of country.
On the other hand, there are serious disadvantage of growing an old population. It results in increasing of non-working population. When people become old, they are unable to work properly due to their different health problems. For example, in many Nepalease household the old people mostly spend their time on religious activities than working actively on a particular sector. This situation results the increament of people who depends on active population, which affects the economic condition of country. In addition increasing of older population causes government to expand health facilities, as old people need more health related supports.
In conclusion, ageing population brings clear benefits such as providing guidance and support to society and family members, but it also causes significant problems for governments including an increasing of non-active population and demanding more health services. So governments should focus on learning valueable experiences and guidance from these age group along with maintaining better facilities and services to them.
