In recent years, human resource departments have defined very good criterion for hiring people considering all aspects that directly affect employees’ productivity. But, there are still different viewpoints about priority of social skills and high qualifications in workplace and performance. This essay will discuss which one is more prominent in the recruitment.
On the one hand, social skills help employees to communicate and negotiate with clients in a mature and friendly way. Moreover, social skills can improve relationship between coworkers. Also, newcomers with high social skills are accepted by other team member sooner than people with no friendly relationships. Beside, for some jobs such as sellers, bank employees, taxi drivers, etc. who face people directly being socialized will bring advantages. Interacting with people can benefit from social skills and lead to high productivity of sellers particularly.
On the other hand, high qualifications are very prominent and mandatory for some vacancies which deal with technical matters. For instance, engineers must possess high qualifications and certificates, because there are many skills that are taught in universities. As an example, mechanical engineers shall be able to calculate amount of tension to find safety factors and design parts. All skills and knowledge for carrying out the mentioned activities are gained by attending in training courses which means having certificates and qualifications. It is necessary to be determined how good or bad engineers have learned their books. Maybe it is possible to do self study, but employers need to make sure the candidates’ knowledge and skills have been assessed before so reviewing candidates’ certificates and qualifications is a good way, especially for hiring of hurt surgeons and plane designers.
In conclusion, both social skill and high qualification are important for people to get better results at work. But, what specifies the importance and priority is the job requirements. Technical jobs require certificates and qualifications and jobs that face people need employees with high level of social skills. Personally, I think a combination of both of them can aid to make progress significantly in works place and increase employment chance.
