It is an all-time controversial topic, whether the working of senior citizens is a positive or negative thing in society. I think it is a positive approach because there are various benefits to old people working in many ways.
Firstly, working after the retirement age as well keeps them earning money and makes them financially independent in old age. Which means they don’t need to feel like a burden on their families and children. For instance, I have seen one close friend’s family. His grandfather, who is a 65-year-old person but still runs a little coffee shop in a town, he not only takes out all his personal expenses; apart from that, he also contributes to family income up to 30 to 35 percent every month. Which is a really amazing thing in today’s date. Hence, old people can bring a bigger amount of change through their efforts in society.
Secondly, if we look at the above example from a macro perspective, we will find that the earnings of old age people contribute to their country’s GDP and per capita income. Which boosts the overall growth and development of the country’s economy. Moreover, it has been observed that retired non-working people tend to get affected by diseases because of their inactive and static day-to-day lifestyle. On the other hand, doing jobs in old age keeps them active physically and mentally. Which helps them to be fit and healthy in old age too, and they can earn as well. Since it is a win-win situation for senior citizens.
In conclusion, I believe the working of old people gives several advantages to them and to society as well. Therefore, every country’s government should allow its senior citizens to work according to their desires and capacities.
