Nowadays, many employers want to stay in touch with their employees all the time, even on vacations. In my view, although it can be useful for companies and principals, working constantly can negatively affect workers’ productivity and wellbeing.
On the one hand, being constantly in contact with staff may be useful for companies and employees. They can instantaneously deal with misunderstandings or conflicts with clients, while being able to respond to various questions. For example, only a particular worker may know specific
preferences of clients, and therefore being able to provide information all the time may be extremely helpful. This in turn can improve the reputation of the companies and employees. Thus, many companies are increasingly choosing to stay in contact with their staff members.
On the other hand, there are numerous potential disadvantages which comes with working all the time. First and foremost, it does not allow people to have personal space which is important to recharge after working days. It would consequently affect their productivity because they need to have more time to themselves and to spend with their families or friends. Keeping in touch with their employers can also contribute negatively to their overall health as it can be sometimes stressful and overwhelming to not be able to rest without work. It would put them under excessive pressure.
In conclusion, although staying in contact with staff can be beneficial for the companies and principals, it has even more negative impacts on employees, such as stress, pressure and worsened productivity . Thus, I believe its disadvantages by far outweigh its advantages.
