It is suggest by many people that children should start learning foreign language at elementary school instead of high school and it is better for them. The advantages and disadvantages of it will be presented in this essay.
To begin with advantages, learning new language in early age is beneficial as it helps to increase the memory power of the child. In other words, it boosts thinking capacity, resulting in development of problem solving skills. Additionally, it helps in improving communication skill. The children can easily understand foreign language and can communicate with foreigners smoothly. Moreover, they will have good knowledge about culture and tradition across the globe.
On the other side, there are many downsides of acquiring native language. The child may feel extra burden to learn native tongue along with its studies. They may focus more on other language. Thus, their academic achievement might be badly effected. Furthermore, developing other language may result in forgetting one owns mother tongue. Focusing more on learning other language may indulge in western culture, while showing disinterest to own culture.
In my view, learning foreign language is beneficial for children as it adds more skills such as communication skill, analytical skill, problem solving skill, etc. Also, it is always fun and interesting to learn new things as a child in it’s growing stage.
In conclusion, it is advantageous to learn foreign language as it helps the children to grow in better version. However, it has some drawbacks such as hampering the childs studies and more involving in western culture, which cannot be overlooked.
