One of the foremost reasons to oppose birth control regulations is the potential decline in the future workforce. For example, countries such as Japan, struggling with an aging society, strive to maintain a sufficient workforce by accepting immigrants or raising the retirement age to 65 or more, leading to negative consequences, such as increasing pension and tax payments. As a result, young people cannot afford to raise their children, leaving the entire society struggling to break out of this negative cycle.
Moreover, by decreasing the number of children, political inequality could become prevalent. It is widely acknowledged that individuals tend to prioritize their own interests due to human instinct, unless they are affluent, so only a few people will benefit at the expense of others. For example, if the elderly population becomes the majority, the government may try to obtain more votes in elections by implementing policies that favor them, leading to negative effects on the next generation. Ultimately, this regime could result in dismal consequences due to a lack of future-oriented policies.
On the other hand, it is crucial to ensure that parents have sufficient financial resources to bring up children. If not, children may be unable to receive adequate education and nutrition, resulting in possible abandonment or becoming orphans. Therefore, requiring proof of financial stability should be advisable for those who wish to have children.
All things considered, given the potential workforce shortages and political bias, governments should be encouraged to abolish policies that control the number of children. However, ensuring that parents have the appropriate means to raise children is exceptionally essential. By employing a balanced approach, governments can secure a stable and sustainable society.
