There is a growing trend where home-based education increasingly gaining popularity and parents choosing this type of learning rather than conventional one. While this trend can pose certain challenges, particularly in developing social skills, and limiting opportunities to spend time with their peers, I personally regard it as mostly advantageous, offering personalized schedule and closer parent-child relationship.
One of the most commonly cited disadvantage of homeschool is limited opportunities to interact with kids of their age group. When children are not attending school and learning online, they may have no chance to communicate, leading to limitation of social development. Most of the children experience feeling of loneliness and isolation, due to lack of interaction, as difficulties which they encounter with forming relationships. Moreover, homeschooling do not provide with access to participate in extracurriculars, which traditional schools do. For instance, the research held by Harvard University professors showed the importance of communication and socialization, where kids having no opportunities to integrate with others, in future face with problems of making friends and acquaintances.
However, despite these drawbacks, I firmly believe that homeschooling often offers more chances to learn effectively. Firstly, one significant advantage of studying online is personalized learning and flexible schedule, which is tailored to a child’s unique needs. When traditional schools follow one-size-fits-all methodology, homeschooling gives an opportunity to concentrate more on subjects you fall behind or are interested in. For example, a pupil in home-based education struggling with mathematics may take additional time to master it, while a conventional learner has no time to do more practice due to home assignment overload. Beyond this, homeschool fosters connection between parent and kid because of constant interaction. It results in creating an environment where parents can spend more time with their child, support and nurture them to enhance their learning process.
To conclude, while home-based studying can have negative implications, such as limitation of social development, I am more convinced that learning online provides more opportunities.
