Some parents tend to punish their children for bad behaviour and mischief, sparkling a debate about whether actively rewarding children for good behaviour and manners be the a better approach. In this essay we will evaluate both the cases with arguments to demonstrate why I think the later might be more helpful in the upbringing of strong independent children.
Punishment for mischief has long been a common practice among parents to discipline their children. However, research has proven that frequent punishment can negatively affect the confidence of children. Additionally, the relationship between the juveniles and adults who penalize them for wrongdoings might be based on fear, rather and affection and respect. This can be detrimental to the mental health of children which might ultimately shape their personalities.
On the other hand, we can see that most parents are taking an alternative approach of rewarding children for disciplined behaviour. Our brains are wired to react positively towards any form rewards, rather than fear. So kids might actually be encouraged to maintain their good behaviour if they are rewarded often. It will also significantly improve their self confidence .
To sum up, parenting approach has significantly changed over the years. People are trying to opt for more peaceful methods like rewarding children instead of punishment. It is absolutely necessary tovrelook at our parenting approach in this era, when we are talking so extensively about mental health and wellbeing.
