According to a group, local authorities should spend more money on improving public transport facilities. In contrast, others opine that upgrading public parks is more valuable. This essay will discuss both the perspectives and give my opinion in the following paragraphs.
Certainly, there are numerous reasons to support the former view that cities should invest more in public transport. The most notable one is that most people already travel to their destinations by bus, train or tram. In simple terms, improving these services would benefit the largest number of citizens. Furthermore, modern facilities such as Wi-Fi, air conditioning and clean washrooms attract more passengers. Consequently, fewer people would commute by their vehicles, which would reduce traffic congestion. Another point worth mentioning is that public transport emissions are less in comparison to private cars and bikes. In other words, when more people share one train or bus, the air in the city becomes cleaner. For example, when I travelled from Mumbai to Delhi on the Rajdhani Express, the Wi-Fi, food and comfortable seats made my long journey enjoyable.
On the other hand, the latter view also holds significant importance. Firstly, people of all ages spend their leisure time in public parks. To elaborate, children, young adults and older people all visit parks to relax and enjoy nature. Moreover, adding new sports facilities, games and flower gardens would make parks even more attractive. For instance, a park with an open gym area or a walking track encourages people to exercise every day. Secondly, parks offer a peaceful environment in noisy cities. To be more specific, they give people fresh air and time to relax away from traffic and crowds. As a result, residents can reduce their stress and improve their mental health.
In conclusion, from the points mentioned above, it can be recapitulated that both views have valid reasons. However, I personally believe that adding new facilities in public transport is more important because it saves citizens a lot of time otherwise wasted in traffic and helps build good city infrastructure.
