Some people argue that there is no point in spending money on the protection of wild animals and plants because humanity has more important problems that require solution.
Overall, I believe that it’s useless trying to save the humanity from so called “bigger” problems if there is no environment for the humanity to live in. As wild animals and plants are extremely important to earth and its existence, they could be the root to a lot of people’s struggles.
The most remarkable problem of today is the global warming. It’s the main cause of climate change, which in its turn is the cause of smaller, yet still extremely challenging problems such as heatwaves, extreme cold, and bad harvests. Those affected by the weather change could become victims of heatstrokes and, therefore worse medical incidents. In addition, bad harvests lead to entire villages being out of food, and since most of the population doesn’t care as much as they should, it could end with starvation, or in the worst cases death.
Moreover, protecting wildlife could significally reduce the frequency and intencity of destructive forest wildfires. Like plant-eating animals, who reduce the amount of grass that fuels fires through grazing. As well as that, bigger animals and birds help the trees by eating their fruits and also spreading seeds around the forest. Not to mention, wild animals have a huge role in improving the quality of soil, its health and fertility.
There is no way for me to look at it from a different perspective. I believe that anyone who isn’t bothered enough by certain problems and have the time to argue that the humanity shouldn’t try to take them down from the root probably shouldn’t advocate for any of the struggles at all.
