There is belief among people that scientific experiments are inhumane and nonessential. Whereas some people argue that such experimental are crucial and advantageous in many ways. In my opinion these experiments are essential for saving lives of many animals and humans, but there is scope of reducing cruelty on animals that are used for this purpose.
Since many decades, animals are used for testing newly discovered drugs and chemicals. As a result of which humans have made many advancements in the field of biology with very few risks involved. Studying the effects of new drugs and vaccines on lab animals like rats, rabbits, dogs have helped scientists eradicate and control many diseases over the years. With the recent emergence of new virus and other disease causing microbes, there is need for more research for more effective medicines. Directly using these medicines on humans can result in many deaths of which is regarded as huge loss as compared to that of laboratory rats and rabbits. So these species are considered better alternative for drug testing.
However, the number of these experiments can be reduced by using advanced technological tools like live cell culture and tissues. Only those experiments should be allowed which are critical for humans instead of testing non essential drugs like cosmetics. Also an organisation should be made that monitors these experiments to ensure that they are performed in manner which result in less pain, death or deformity in animals.
In conclusion, these experiments are unavoidable but can be decreased to the extent that it doesn’t interfere with the welfare of animals. They should be conducted with less brutality and with more gentleness. Scientists should be more compassionate towards animals while using them for their benefit.
