There is a debate going on about whether completing a university degree is the best way to secure a good or to start working right after school is a better idea.
University education can improve a student’s employment. The better university you go to the better companies approach you. Many professions such as medicine, law and engineering require specialised knowledge and formal qualifications before someone can enter the field. For example a student cannot operate a patient just by watching a youtube video or just reading about it. It takes a lot of practice and studing before you can start operating. University also helps students develop skills such as critical thinking, communication and independent problem solving. Furthermore, having a degree can make the candidate more competitive when applying for jobs. For example, a company looking for a software engineer is more likely to consider a applicant who has studied well and might act as an asset to the company.
On the other hand, starting work straight after school can provide advantages that classrooms cannot always offer. Young people have more ideas and sometimes universities might not help them go ahead with their ideas or restrict them. Unwanted assingments and events can create an obstacle. A student must learn to find his strengths or weaknesses and this can only be achieved through real-life experience something that colleges fail to provide In some sectors such as sales and creative fields, employers may place greater importance on skills and experiences rather than academic qualifications. In addition working early can help them to earn money faster and become more financially independent rather than spending several more years studying.
In my view, neither pathway can guarantee a good job or success. While university degree is essential for certain careers and can open many professional doors, practical experience can be equally valuable. It also depends on the career you choose. For a medicine, universities are best but the same cannot be said about trading. Eventually it is the skill that you acquire that helps the most. Hence upskilling is far more important to have a stable career.
