Some people claim that arts offer no values in enhancing the quality of human life, and the government’s fund should allocate to other areas such as education or healthcare services. Although I agree that other fields play an important role in the society nowadays, I also believe that the importance of paintings and music is no less than that of the other fields in the development of human’s culture.
To start with, arts can improve people’s emotional well-being and can be used as a means to preserve culture. Many psychologists use abstract paintings to analyze the psychological issues of patients such as stress or autism, which help them receive professional medical treatments earlier. Creating arts or listening to music can also give individuals a sense of relaxation, reduce anxiety and stress levels, as well as discovering complex feelings. Moreover, recreation of paintings and their transmission to next generations will help preserve the culture and history of a country. For instance, Dong Ho paintings depict the farming life and traditional festivals of the Vietnamese back in the 1700s, which have almost disappeared in modern life. Therefore, arts serve as a great way to explore the inn emotions of individuals, along with passing down the history of the old days to future generations.
However, it cannot be denied that arts also have drawbacks. The act of preserving the ancient works of art needs a large proportion of the government’s money. Museum, security measures, and restoration projects are only some of the necessary expenses. Furthermore, the issue of plagiarism also creates a significant threat to the art market and public trust. Although arts play a crucial role in human’s life, it cannot avoid negative impacts to the community.
In conclusion, while some assume that arts offer limited practical values, I firmly believe that arts remain an essential part in the society. Despite the financial burden of preserving artistic works and the challenges facing the art industry, paintings and drawings contribute significantly to people’s emotional well-being and cultural heritage. Thus, the government should continue to support the arts alongside with other important areas.
