People have different views about whether it is more beneficial for a country to host a big sporting event or more harmful. I firmly believe that it may bring numerous benefits for a country provided certain steps are taken.
On the one hand, organising a major sporting event can be highly profitable for a country. First and foremost, an international sport competition can attract a lot of people from around the world, who come to enjoy the entertainment. Consequently, the country can make a profit through tourist spending, such as expenditures on accommodation, on food, services and on different amenities that the nation can offer. Additionally, the hosting country can gain prestige and respect from other nations on the international stage because it requires a large amount of money as well as a substantial investment in infrastructure.
On the other hand, holding a significant sport competition has its drawbacks too. To begin with, an enormous amount of money is needed when organizing an event. Therefore, countries that cannot afford it usually get a loan from other nations. As a result, these countries get into heavy debts and eventually lose their financial independence in the long-term. At the same time, the money the hosting country spends on building stadiums and other crucial buildings for the event might be wasted on the grounds that these buildings may not be utilized in the future.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that if a hosting country approaches this mission with long-term planning and consideration of key factors including total expenditure it can derive benefits from it.
