There is a suggestion that people’s ideas and information should not be concealed and humans should have autonomy to access any media content like television, newspapers or internet. I personally disagree with the given viewpoint, as this policy not only may pose a spread of false or fake information but also result in privacy violations.
On the one hand, the idea regarding making media completely open sounds a practical solution to improve public awareness. Due to various social media platforms citizens can get access to diverse information and perspectives. This helps them to stay informed about global and political issues and aware of their rights, and able to make independent decisions. For instance, open media allows people hear opinions from different sides which promotes their critical thinking. In other words, uncontrolled media presents social progress by sharing different ideas and experiences. For example, through making public debates governments can make positive changes in society.
On the other hand, unrestricted media is indeed informative and educational, however it is not without its disadvantages. Firstly, media freedom may pose a spread of false information by broadcasting fake news or rumors which may cause panic and misunderstanding among people. In addition, the circulation of incorrect, misleading and fake information may have a strong influence on social networks. Furthermore ,it also leads to individuals’ privacy violations through circulating personal informations. Personal data and private converstions can be shared without permission. This, in turn, results in further depressions and damage to one’s reputation. Therefore, protecting privacy is essential to maintain people’s safety.
In conclusion, although making media uncontrolled for people provides more beneficial outcomes in terms of public awareness and social enhancement , I firmly believe that it should be restricted regardless of its advantages.
