In the modern world, where artificial intelligence technology has gone so far, many people are getting worried about its future negative impact, while others believe that this technology has the power to improve our lives. In this essay, both views will be discussed, and why I strongly advocate for the second approach.
On the one hand, one of the main reasons why some people are worried about AI is its impact on the future job market. To illustrate, AI lately has been proven to master many tasks in different technical domains like management and IT, as well as creative ones like graphic design and music production. Consequently, companies started to hire fewer people and invest more in this technology and use it in some kind of work that used to be performed only by human beings. Furthermore, some advertising and social media companies will be able to take over our lives and control our decisions using AI algorithms. For example, platforms like Facebook and TikTok started to use advanced AI algorithms these recent years to attract more users, which is harmful because they impact negatively on our brains and decision-making.
On the other hand, according to Yuval Noah Harari’s Book “21Llessons for the 21st Century”, artificial intelligence advantages may outweigh its disadvantages. First, governments may use AI to automate many operations and systems. For instance, many countries are planning to switch to driverless transportation systems that use only AI, as it is a safer option and costs less. Secondly, this technology can be a life changer when it comes to decision-making. In the near future, AI will have access to our daily personal data, and based on that, it will decide on our behalf. Likewise, a new chatbot called Chat-GPT helped me choose my career, and that was based on its interpretation of the answers to questions it gave me.
In conclusion, despite the fact that artificial intelligence will take over many people’s jobs and lives, other job opportunities will be created in the AI industry. Moreover, it will ease our daily tasks and micro-decisions.
