In this day and age, quite many people have strong opinions about optimal ways to reduce air pollution. One part of society thinks that car-free days should be set on certain dates, while others argue that more effective solutions exist. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and state the author’s opinion.
On the one hand, car-free days are not the most optimal but most cost-effective method to reduce air pollution. By limiting the usage of cars governments can encourage people to use public transports more. Consequently, this will reduce air pollution and prevent other problems like car accidents.
On the other hand, cars are not solely responsible for air pollution. A study shows that 78 percent of air pollution is caused by harmful gases emitted from factories. Thus, instead of only relying on car-free days solutions like production-free days, or collection of harmful gases and disposing of them in different ways can be more optimal.
Lastly, in my opinion, every solution has one crucial flaw. What if, instead of using cars that use fuel we use cars that do not? This will solve two problems at once transportation and air pollution. On top of that factories cannot be stopped due to high demand unless there is an alternative method of production. Research shows that in the next 15 years population is expected to grow by 2 billion and this will result in an even greater increase in demand.
In conclusion, many people believe that car-free days or other methods are optimal for solving air pollution. Still, every solution has a side that needs attention.
