Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerning about the fact that air pollution become more serious in many urban areas.
While I accept that organize car-free day can bring some environmental benefit, I would argue that there is more effective methods to reduce air pollution in long term.
On one hand, it can argued that there are two clearly benefits that car-free days offers in reducing air pollution. The first reason is car-free days encourage people to reduce use of private car. For example, when city limits car using for a day, people likely to walk, ride bike, or using public transport, which create less emission. Secondly, car-free days raise people awareness about harmful effect of vehicles. This may help people to change their behavior, like sharing car or choose more green transport.
On the other hand, I am with the opinion that the important of long-term solutions must not be underestimate.Firstly, improve public transport is more sustainable way for reduce air pollution. Better and cheap public transportation can cut the number of cars on roads, which help air quality.Secondly, government can make strict rule on factories and encourage renewable energy. These action can deal with the real cause of pollution and have more effective result than one-day event.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge that car-free days can helpful for reduce air pollution, I would contend that invest in transport and clean energy are more good way.A balance should be stuck between two to make the best result.
