Some people agree that spending all of their leisure time with their families is necessary for children, while others say that this is not essential or even it could be negative for kids. There are different arguments on both sides, however, which we will discuss here.
On the one hand, it may be effective for children to spend time with their parents, foster parents, or guardians. They can see older people as role models and grow well. In some countries, there are some conventions and codes of conduct which kids can learn from their parents. Moreover, it may prevent youngsters from bad patterns of behavior such as bullying, truancy and delinquency. Certain age groups tend to negative habits due to peer pressure.
On the other hand, we have to ask whether this is a perfect proposition. Since both parents should work for making a living in recent years, it is not viable for parents to spend enough time with children. In some countries, there are some services such as child-minding and after-school childcare which offer families a service to take care of their children when they are away from home. If these services work properly, then these can be an alternative solution. Furthermore, latest research studies show that playing and studying with peers could be beneficial for young people to improve their soft skills.
To conclude, it appears that, while parents have a role to play in bringing up their children well, I do not believe that kids should spend all their time with their parents. Peers also have a crucial role to play.
