In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate about whether numerous parents should help their children have a comprehensive grasp of various subjects by themselves in lieu of sending them to school. I firmly believe that the drawbacks of home-schooling outweigh its benefits.
On the one hand, there are some reasons why some subscribe to teaching young children at home. One factor is that parents can control their children’s curriculum through better supervision. Thanks to one-to-one construction, parents make a great contribution for their children to studying more easily and constantly, including determining the strong and weak point of their child, thereby tailoring academic plans with regard to more individualised and effective aspects. Furthermore, this learning method acts as a catalyst for creating stress-free environment, potentially helping children become more self-reliant in honing their academic performance at their own pace without any pressure. Therefore, not only does it minimize social problems such as peer pressure or placing emphasis on marks but also enhance their ability to knowledge acquisition more effectively. Lastly, this method is suitable for those who have mental complication or depression, they can foster higher productivity in studying if parents give them meticulousness and special attention.
On the other hand, despite these aforementioned benefits, the merits of studing at school should not be overlooked. One reason is that having a comprehensive grasp of subjects at school is more formal with current curriculums instead of home-schooling. Numerous parents do not have enough professional knowledge and skills to teach their children, completely resulting in alleviating knowledge absorption and learning quality. In contrast, formal instructors, who have learning qualifications and hands-on experiences on teaching stages, may be likely to urge young students to acquire more knowledge and avoid poor quality learning thanks to their professional skills. Not only that, in an educational environment, students not only gain academic knowledge but also build social networks and learn to work respectfully with peers, which strengthens necessary skills like teamwork and communication. In contrast, homeschooling limits children’s social exposure, making it harder for them to develop soft skills or meaningful friendships, potentially leading to issues such as anxiety or depression.
In conclusion, although home-schooling method can bring some certain benefits, the merits of formal education has greater potential. I firmly believe that parents should send their children in an open-air environment for not only improving their academic performance but also social skil
