Famine is one of the consequential, yet unresolved, issues of humanity that still threaten the world. A few people assert hunger strikes can be resolved by increasing literacy rates throughout the globe. However, others hold the opinion that a large amount of food should be supplied, to feed an individual. Thus, this essay will discuss both schools of thought with suitable judgment.
Consequently, education instills human beings with various aspects of information. Education has played an imperative role in lessening various malpractices such as crime, illegal trade, and corruption. Educating people about the importance of agriculture, teaching different techniques and methods to cultivate, and ways to store food would help the poor generate food for themselves. Moreover, by launching education programs, pupils can earn for themselves, making them financially viable. Thereby, boosting the country’s “Gross Domestic Product”(GDP). For instance, India has recently introduced the “First Hunger First Initiative” to tackle malnutrition, and food shortages in remote areas by providing free education to children, men and women. This program is now inducing the poor to become economically independent.
On the other hand, some argue that providing food to poor countries is the best way to eradicate starvation. Many under-developed nations, like Africa, and Pakistan face a shortage of food every year. Due to starvation, a large number of adults and minors are currently dying, so food aid from developed nations can only help them overcome this serious crisis. Underdeveloped countries have unstable economies, and implementing educational programs would be ineffective, so food assistance becomes a crucial means to nourish such populations.
To conclude, I believe that providing proper education can only settle this most critical concern of mankind since food-aid is only beneficial in the short run and education promotes a true escape from the cycle of poverty in the long run.
