It is widely acknowledged that providing healthy food for all individuals is the responsibility of the government, sparking intense debate over whether each individual should take responsibility for every decision relating to their nutrition. While the attention of the government is good for public health, I still firmly believe that each citizen should be responsible for their own meals.
On the one hand, the government plays a pivotal role in the quality assessment of food and ensuring that almost all citizens can consume healthy food. To explain, with public policies, the government can control the quality of food and reduce food insecurity to ensure it does not have nutrient-deficient food quality. Besides, they can implement regulated measures to protect public health. For instance, curbing on junk food advertising also helps consumers have a shift in their preferences, they can redirect toward healthy food due to the disappearance of junk and low-quality food. This way can reduce the burden on the medical system and diet-related ailments. Consequently, citizens can live without the obesity epidemic and have a low risk of NCDs due to consuming high-quality food.
On the other hand, the government’ controlling can not alter the thinking of individuals in their diet concepts. This is because each person should have responsibility for their diet choices and needs to manage their nutrition. To explain, a personal sense of discipline combined with their own nutrition awareness is an important key to deciding long-term habits and maintaining their healthy lifestyle. For example, with the mass production of food, people can easily be tempted by pre-packaged food, so they need to learn how to control themselves and opt for organic food instead of processed food, which involves the amount of synthetic additives and preservatives. Furthermore, choosing a sustainable plant-based diet, coupled with regular exercise outside the government’s control, still supporting individuals to preserve people from the obesity epidemic and the risk of illness related to colonic disease because of unhealthy diets.
In conclusion, while the government acts as a protective filter for public health security, I firmly believe that individuals’ nutritional awareness is more crucial and remains the main reason for their health by selecting healthy food, avoiding nutrient-deficient food, and continuing to exercise regularly.
