Traffic congestion has become increasingly in pressing issue in many cities around the world. As the population continues to grow and more people opting personal vehicles, roads are becoming more and more crowded, causing delays, pollution, and accidents. In this regard some people think that the authorities should invest money on public transport to decrease traffic jams, while others assert that construction of more and wider roads is more effective solution for this issue. In this essay, I will examine both points of view and give my opinion on this matter.
On the one hand, the proponents of the former view point, people believe that the government should be invested money to build train and subway lines that they can move many people at a time and have a smaller environmental footprint than individual cars. Moreover, public transport has the potential to reduce carbon footprint of a city. With fewer cars on the road it will be reduced emission of greenhouse gases, which contribute the climate change.
On the other hand, the advocates of the latter view point, some argue that building more and wider roads requires less capital investment and is less time-consuming for construction than public transport. Furthermore, construction of widening existing roads and build new ones to provide more effective direct routes which can save more time for commuters and reduce gridlock.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that by constructing trains and subway lines, the government can not only ease the congestion but also reduction of carbon footprint and sustainable development, and in addition the authorities should prioritize promoting the comprehensive solution by building the more and existing roads. From my point of view, the government should invest public transport as well as maintaining of existing roads in order to reduce traffic jams.
