From my perspective, I partially agree with this idea because of some immediate social issues and technological advancements.
On the one hand, there are a variety of problems that have been ongoing on Earth and need direct investment, such as poverty, hunger, and health problems. Firstly, in today’s world, there are millions of people who are suffering from poverty and hunger, especially in low-income countries. In order to improve their living standards, government funds could be used to support low-income groups. and reduce the wealth gap. Secondly, for those who suffer from poverty There is also another problem, which is inequality. However, this Inequality and wealth gaps can be reduced by investing in industries on Earth, which could create more immediate job opportunities than space research for those people.
On the other hand, some can see the space exploration as a state-of-the-art due to the merits that it brings. It cannot be denied that investing in such a kind of technology enhances scientific knowledge and fosters new technologies that can be applied in various industries, like healthcare and the communication sector. Also, it boosts technological advancements, leading to competition among countries trying to have a patent for their research and results, which can result in higher profits for the owner country. Also, space exploration can create jobs and stimulate growth in high-tech sectors.
All in all, although it is a controversial topic and both ideas have their own reasons for justifying, it seems to me that governments should prioritize their people’s needs and take into consideration their opinion.
