It is impossible to deny the fact that the main responsibility of the government is maintaining the safety of every human in the country. Some people believe that it should be allowed to authorities to have an access to individuals’ personal information such as calls and private messages in order to provide secure life, however others believe that personal information should not be free to access even to the government. In this essay both views will be discussed before the conclusion is drawn.
On the one hand, it is quite obvious why some citizens assume that providing personal information might transform cities into more secure places. In other words, these days almost every person use technological devices to call their relatives and friends, to text them or just to share some details on social media, so the same actions are done by perpetrators when they discuss their crimes. Therefore, if the authorities have a confidential access to the criminals’ mobile phones, they might track them down and arrest. Moreover, it is also possible to prevent a crime if police find something suspicious on the person’s phone.
But on the other hand, unlimited access to the private information of smartphone users is literally the invasion of privacy which is contradicts basic human rights. Citizens should be allowed to have some personal space without being paranoid about some security services constantly checking their messages and calls. Furthermore, the idea of constant surveillance from authorities might destroy peoples’ trust in the government and might be the reason of civil rebellions within the country.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the personal data should remain private for every individual, and the only exception for its revealing to the authorities is the necessity to prevent the crime or to find the criminal. In addition, I am convinced that the government should use another methods such as installing more CCTV cameras and to hire more qualified guard to keep their citizens out of the dangers.
