There are plenty of people that believe governments should have the right to access people’s personal phone call records and messages for safety reasons while others believe that this information is confidential and should not be available to the government without permission.
In order to keep the country and the citizens safe , the government may have to breach the privacy of the people living in that country. Let’s take an attempt to assassin a government official as an example. If the police officers have some lead on the individual that might have done the crime, they may look into the call logs and messages of that person to see if there are any associates or if any evidence can be found in their phone records. Although this might be confidential information, since lives of officials are at stake, the government may not see that as a significant problem.
On the contrary, some people believe that regardless of anything, our private information should not be accessible to the government. For instance, if we have many inappropriate images or videos on our phone, we may not want anyone, including the government, to have access to our phones.
To conclude, while some people believe that the government should access our private files for serious investigations like attempted murder, others believe that our privacy should be kept regardless of everything. In my opinion, i believe that the government should have access to our phone records and messages if the investigation is more important than just breaching our privacy.
