A part of our society thinks that the government system needs to have the possibility to get people’s mobile phone call data and messages for safety reasons. The last part thinks that this data is self and needs to be available without serious causes.
First of all, nowadays a lot of authorities and democratic countries like to use people’s private information to control society. For instance, in 2024 August Pavel Durov (billionaire and genius, who made the biggest messenger Telegram) was arrested in France, because his team didn’t give access to a person’s messages in Telegram to the Fracne FBI. There were a lot of causes, when terrorists used to plan terror acts due Telegram app. If the government has access to terrorist chats the people’s deaths could be avoided. On this position, I agree with movements, that support less privacy on the internet to make our world more safety.
But on the opposite side, we don’t know how governments will use access to our private messages. For instance, in authority countries, self-messages are used against a person. If you write something bad about the national government, your message could be used against you in judgment. A good example is when police see in private chats such as repressing social meetings against the country’s power, like a Georgia. As a result, citizens fear the police and they are against the of destruction privacy on the internet.
In conclusion, I think we need to have a balance in government influence on our privacy in the phone and internet. For me, it good example of how to work this system in Lithuania, which has a ” Lithuanian internet police”, that doesn’t have the possibility to see self-chats, calls, and messages, but can control public messages and publications and stop a terrorist.
